چکیده

The results of theoretical and numerical considerations of linear Compton scattering are used to evaluate characteristics of X-rays produced by collision between a low emittance electron beam and intensive laser light in an X-ray generator NESTOR of NSC KIPT. Two main generation modes have been under consideration at preliminary NESTOR design. There are the operation mode for medicine 33.4 keV X-rays production using 43 Mev electron beam and Nd:YAG laser beam and higher energy X-rays production mode providing X-rays with energy up to 900 keV with 225 MeV electron beam and Nd:YAG laser beam. It was supposed to use an optical cavity for laser beam accumulation of about 2.6 m long and an interaction angle of about 3 in both operation modes. A few more operation modes provide possibility to expand operation range of NESTOR. Using interaction angle 10 and 150 along with optical resonator of 42 cm long and the second mode of laser light it is possible to produce X-rays in energy range from a few keV till 1.5 MeV. The intensity and spectral brightness of the X-rays is expected to be ~ 10 phot/s and ~ 10 phot/s/mm/mrad/0.1%BW respectively.

Unfolding X-ray spectrum in the diagnostic range using the Monte Carlo Code MCNP5

Introduction: Unfolding X-ray spectrum is a powerful tool for quality control of X-ray tubes. Generally, the acquisition of the X-ray spectrum in diagnostic radiology departments is complicated and difficult due to high photon flux. Measurement of x ray spectra using radiation detectors could not be performed accurately, because of the pulse pile up. Therefore, indirect methods...

An iterative method to estimate x-ray attenuation coefficients in computed tomography

Introduction: The basis of image formation in Computed Tomography (CT) lies in the x-ray linear attenuation coefficient of the scanned material. Compton scattering and photoelectric effect are the dominant interactions of the x-ray photons with the subject, in the range of diagnostic radiology. These two coefficients are important in tissue characterization by Dual-Energy CT (D...

Laser Super Cavity

We are developing Laser Super Cavity for compact X-ray generator based on Inverse Compton Scattering with several tens MeV electron beam. The laser supercavity increases the laser power and makes small laser beam size at the collision point with the electron beam. A FabryPerot cavity as the laser supercavity has been tested at the KEK-ATF (Accelerator Test Facility) and the design for the incre...

Linac-based Laser Compton Scattering X-ray and Gamma-ray Sources

Laser Compton scattering (LCS) light sources can provide high-energy photons from keV to MeV range. Many research and development projects of linac-based LCS sources are carried on. For the photon energies of tens keV, linac-based LCS sources realize laboratory-size X-ray sources, of which performance is potentially comparable to 2 generation synchrotron light sources. Linac-based LCS also real...
